13. Lynn Regis

A lovely sunny day, the water was approximately 61 degrees. Quite a lot of weed at the start/finish point. The novice race was delayed a little due to an accident on the road leading to the venue. We had 13 novices and again a good entry from Hitchin many thanks to Lee Portingale their Chief Coach, he always gives us some good support. The fastest time in this event was 14 mins and the slowest 32 mins 59 secs but they all came home safe and with big smiles too. Margaret Smith started with the Novices and carried on over the 4.5k course swimming breaststroke.

The senior race started at 12.45. It was nice to see a lot of new swimmers joining us in this event. Nicola Fraser stormed out in front and led the way from start to finish. The men's race was a lot closer with Ian Murray being closly tailed by Mark Gardner but at the end Ian out sprinted Mark to win the race by just over a minute. Simon Lee was home 4th but 3rd man in 1hr 12mins 28 secs. In the womwns race Nicola Fraser recorded a time of 1hr 03mins 04 secs with Liane coming home 2nd 1n 1hr 16 mins 11 secs and a new name to me Kathy Batts from Rochesterwas 3rd in a time of 1hr 26 mins 46 secs she was also the 1st Veteran woman home. In 4th place another new name to this event Jo Norton Barker from Warrington. Our last freestyler was Sharon Atkinson who was absolutely delighted to finish the race and had a big smile on her face. Margaret Smith swimming breaststroke was the last to finish the race but also had a smile for us all.

The Junior race had three entrants two from Luton and Nicola Frasers younger sisterCatriona. Alex Mason the only boy went in to a quick lead followed by Hannah Colwell and Catriona. This was a hard fought race with Alex coming in 1st and Hannah just dropped behind by a minute and Catriona tried very hard to keep up with them. My thanks to you Juniors I hope you will come back next year and bring some more friends with you.

My thanks to all my officials, David Baddie and Ouse Sailing Club, Pat Llewellyn who stayed in the kitchen all day and did a marvelous job, thanks also to Mrs Fraser who stood in to timekeep with Gwyn Llewellyn, thanks also to all the Pilots and last but not least all the swimmers for attending the event.
