13. Lynn Regis

Lynn Regis, Saturday 20th September 2008

Calm waters and sunshine for the start of the race. Water temperature a nippy 58 degrees or 14c welcomed the swimmers after the gun at 12.00hrs. Three swimmers gained a lead of 30 meters after the first 500 meters of swimming. The group consisted of Paul Hopfensperger, Lee Portingale and Dee Llewellyn. They went on to stretch their lead leaving a gutsy Simon lee to chase them. Young 16 year old Jamie Scottt battled very well.The end results Paul just out running Dee and Lee. Having just completed a channel swim the week before he was a class act. Amy Mellor and Victoria Moore will be snapping on the heels of Dee come 2009 I'm sure. In the Junior race in the absence of Chris Suggitt Carl Halford took full advantage and raced straight into the lead very quickly. Nicola Fraser kept close quarters but could not close the gap. She has come on to become one of our best Juniors this year. Jack Steventon is a quiet lad but always' gives his best and just fell short this time. Isabelle Martin was 1 minute down and a great race between Abigail Malstar and Georgina Halford sister of the winner produced a stunning close finish, only 6 seconds between them. Hayley Ackroyd came 1st in the breaststroke.
